sharon’s noord sweatshirt
I’ve been itching to create the Noord Sweatshirt ever since it was released last year. After taking a short break from sewing due to health issues, this felt like the ideal project to dive back into.
The pattern offers a ton of pieces, which means there’s virtually no limit to the design options you can explore. In fact, I’d say picking out the fabrics and planning the layout were probably the toughest parts of this whole process.
I had some of my go-to prints tucked away in my fabric stash, and I couldn’t resist using them. The colors are absolutely stunning, and the fabric feels incredibly soft. Its weight makes it perfect for the transitional seasons here—spring and early fall. I was looking for something light but still cozy enough to layer during those unpredictable times.
Creating this sweatshirt was surprisingly straightforward, and it was such a joy to work on. One of my favorite things about the Noord pattern is that it includes cup sizes, so I didn’t have to worry about making any fitting adjustments. It was smooth sailing from cutting the pieces to starting the actual sewing. Patterns that fit well from the beginning always make me smile!
One thing I particularly loved about this pattern was how cleverly the sleeves and bodice come together. There are four seams on each sleeve, so I opted for a soft, 100% cotton thread in my serger to handle most of the seams. For the hem facing, though, I used my regular sewing machine. The pattern even came with detailed instructions for manual sewing, which turned out to be super helpful.
Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed putting this together and plan to revisit the pattern soon. I’m already thinking about making another version in a heavier sweatshirt knit for next winter. My tween daughter also expressed interest in getting her own! Thanks to the cup sizing included in the pattern, creating one for her should be a piece of cake. I know this shirt is going to become a wardrobe staple for me.
