Guangdong Shunde clothing exports increased denim adult clothing
In the first eight months of this year, the Shunde Entry-Exit Inspection and Quarantine Bureau reported that a total of 12,448 batches of exported garments were inspected, with a combined value reaching $62,395,508. This represents a significant year-on-year increase of 19.6% in the number of batches and 41.08% in value. As garment exports continue to rise, international standards for safety and environmental protection have become more rigorous. Experts from the Shunde Inspection and Quarantine Bureau advise export-oriented clothing companies to enhance their legal and environmental awareness, and to better prepare for foreign technical trade barriers.
Currently, Shunde’s garment exports are mainly composed of cotton woven denim adult clothing, which makes up over 60% of all exported garments. These products are primarily shipped to the European Union, the United States, Hong Kong, South Korea, South Africa, and Australia. Notably, shipments to the EU and the US account for more than 70% of the total. The majority of these companies are small to medium-sized enterprises located in areas such as Junan, Ronggui, Xingtan, and Lunjiao. Most of them operate with annual export volumes ranging from millions to tens of millions of dollars, employing between dozens to hundreds of workers.
According to officials at the Shunde Inspection and Quarantine Bureau, after over a decade of development, the local garment industry has significantly improved its raw material sourcing, key manufacturing processes, and overall production quality. However, as export volumes grow, so do the demands for safety and environmental compliance. Experts recommend that clothing exporters strengthen their understanding of legal requirements and environmental regulations, ensuring strict adherence to technical specifications set by importing countries. They emphasize the importance of controlling the pH level of fabrics and other eco-friendly factors.
For children's clothing exported to the EU, the US, and Japan, it is essential to avoid the use of azo dyes, ensure proper flammability properties, accurately label fiber content, formaldehyde levels, pH values, and pay special attention to design elements such as long strings or small parts that could pose safety risks. In addition, the industry should foster greater collaboration and information sharing to better address foreign technical trade challenges together.
