Do not drop anti-rising suspected of hype secret mahogany furniture price storm
In recent years, the mahogany furniture market has witnessed dramatic price fluctuations, drawing attention from both investors and consumers. In 2007, a set of mahogany furniture was showcased at the ASEAN Expo with a staggering price tag of 80 million yuan. However, by 2010, the same type of furniture had dropped significantly in value, with some pieces priced below 200,000 yuan. This sharp decline in just three years shocked many redwood speculators, who were left questioning whether prices had hit rock bottom. Some rushed to sell their inventory, while others argued that the drop was not as drastic as reported.
Despite these reports, many shop owners in Beijing's antique markets still claim that the price of mahogany furniture hasn’t actually fallen. Mr. Li, a Hainan Huanghuali Furniture representative, told reporters that he hadn't noticed any significant price drops in his business. Similarly, other store owners denied the rumors, insisting that the news was exaggerated or even false. When reporters visited several furniture markets, they found few "price cut" signs, suggesting that the market remained stable. Some businesses even claimed that prices had only slightly increased due to rising material costs.
Mr. Liu, another furniture business owner, criticized the media for spreading misleading information. He pointed out that claims such as the price of Suanzhi dropping from nearly 800,000 yuan per ton to less than 10,000 yuan were clearly fabricated. While raw material prices have been gradually increasing, the actual rise in rosewood prices wasn't anywhere near what was reported. According to industry insiders, the sudden drop in mahogany prices might be the result of deliberate manipulation by some investors aiming to drive down the market and buy low later.
Wang Yuan, a manufacturer from Hebei, confirmed that the cost of red rosewood had risen sharply, from 40,000 yuan per ton to 60,000 yuan. This trend highlights the growing pressure on suppliers and manufacturers, who are struggling to maintain profit margins. Despite this, the market remains volatile, with speculation playing a major role in price swings.
Experts suggest that the lack of regulation and standardization in the mahogany furniture industry has created an environment where speculation thrives. Without clear oversight, professional speculators can manipulate prices through various tactics, including private transactions and inflated pricing. Industry insiders believe that stricter controls and transparency measures are needed to stabilize the market.
To help consumers navigate this complex market, the Beijing Furniture Association and Xuanming Classical Residence introduced a "transparent pricing" system. This initiative lists raw material costs, labor expenses, and reasonable profits, allowing buyers to make informed decisions. Additionally, price charts are updated regularly to reflect current market conditions.
Professor Yang Jiaxuan from the Beijing Forestry Academy advises buyers to take three key steps when purchasing mahogany furniture: understanding international redwood standards, comparing products, and ensuring the wood species is clearly stated in contracts. He also warns about fake mahogany products, which are often cheaper and harder to distinguish from real ones.
With the market still confusing and unregulated, experts emphasize the need for greater industry cooperation and self-discipline to ensure long-term stability and consumer trust. As the mahogany furniture market continues to evolve, transparency and education will play crucial roles in shaping its future.
