Top 18 billion investment in the textile city settled in the rise of the new landmark of Dongcheng
In many nostalgic memories of old Xi’an, the Textile City once symbolized a thriving commercial hub during the 1960s and 1970s. As the decades passed, however, the decline of the textile industry led to its gradual disappearance from the city's spotlight. But with the launch of a large-scale development and transformation project, the Textile City is now experiencing a remarkable revival. On February 25, a significant milestone was reached when 18 billion yuan in investment was officially allocated to the area, marking the beginning of its transformation.
The once-bustling streets of Xiaosuo, the empty courtyards, and the aging factory buildings still stand as silent witnesses to the era when the six cotton mills were at their peak. On that same morning, 12 major projects totaling 18 billion yuan were signed within the comprehensive development zone of the Textile City. As the heart of this revitalization, the area is expected to undergo a stunning transformation in the near future.
Zhang Minghua, Director of the Economic Development Bureau at the Xi’an Textile City Comprehensive Development Office, stated, “From a planning perspective, the area will primarily focus on residential and commercial functions. We’ve named it the Silk Road Business Center, which is set to become a prime destination for shopping, business, and leisure activities for Xi’an residents.â€
The core area of the project has attracted major investors, including Fortune 500 companies and the China Railway Real Estate Group. These companies had already recognized the potential of the area during last year’s Western Investment and Trade Fair. The recent allocation of 100 billion yuan reflects their confidence in the future of the Dongcheng district in Xi’an.
Gao Feng, General Manager of China Railway Industry Group Xi’an Co., Ltd., added, “We plan to focus our investments on the Baqiao District and the Textile City in the coming years. This includes not only real estate development but also urban renewal, the transformation of old neighborhoods, infrastructure improvements, and cultural initiatives.â€
Zhang Minghua further emphasized, “The successful implementation of this project will benefit over 100,000 residents in the old city area, significantly improving their living conditions, environment, and quality of life.â€
